1987- 88 - Post-Doctoral Research Fellow – The City University London, UK
This work involves both mathematical modelling, design and development of optical fibre based sensor for temperature measurement. I designed and developed transmission and reflection type sensors using plastics fibres and using ruby crystal to measure temperature up to 300o C. This work lead to development of finite element mathematical modelling of a 3x3x3mm ruby crystal when heated on two sides by high power laser via multimode plastic fibres to predicate the temperature distribution within the crystal. See publications in 1988 and 1990.
My research interest in sensor continued to grow when moved to Sheffield Hallam university. I was involved in a number of projects funded by the EPSRC, Department of Trade and Industry and European Union, such as: (i) CO2 gas detection and water pollution detection using all-optical sensor techniques based on Mach-zhender interferometer. My contribution was on signal detection, transmission and signal processing. (ii) corrosion detection in concrete using long period fibre grating sensors. This involved mathematical modelling, fabrication and testing of long period fibre grating, See publication list for outputs.

I was helping out academic staff with laboratories and tutorials. I was also involved with a number small projects and helping out undergraduate final year projects and MSc dissertation. This was very rewarding and helped me to engage with students at various levels.
